On Tuesday, the Supreme Court directed the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to refrain from involving the apex court in its agenda concerning a plea for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation into allegations of children being sold by shelter homes associated with the Missionaries of Charity in Jharkhand, founded by Mother Teresa.

The Bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, criticized the NCPCR, ultimately dismissing its petition. The justices described the relief requested as vague and overly broad, rendering it unmanageable for consideration. “Do not involve the Supreme Court in your agenda. What specific relief are you seeking in this petition? How can we issue such directions? The petition is entirely misconstrued”, the bench remarked to the NCPCR’s lawyer.
