News Agency ANI has filed a lawsuit against Netflix Inc. and the producers of the series “IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack,” seeking the removal of four episodes that allegedly used ANI’s copyrighted content without permission. The series, which fictionalizes the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines flight 814, has been criticized for inaccurately portraying the hijackers with Hindu names instead of their actual Muslim identities. ANI’s lawyer, Sidhant Kumar, argued that the unauthorized use of ANI footage and trademarks has damaged the agency’s brand.
The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear the case and requested a response from Netflix. As of now, Netflix has not provided a comment. The series has also faced scrutiny from social media users and members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
