An FIR has been lodged against a Lawyer in Kerala for indecent exposure and inappropriate gestures during a Virtual Court appearance. Advocate TK Ajan, who was representing a client before the Additional District Judge in Thodupuzha, Idukki, on September 2, allegedly exposed himself while participating via video conference.
The Court, upon witnessing the conduct, immediately discontinued the virtual hearing. The Court order noted,” During the hearing, the counsel for the appellant exposed his nudity with certain gestures, leading to the adjournment of the case and a directive for the appellant’s counsel to appear in person. The Google Meet was switched off to prevent further inappropriate behaviour”.
Subsequently, the bench clerk filed a formal complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR. The lawyer has been booked under Section 79 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Snahita (pertaining to words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Section 119(1)(a) of the Kerala Police Act, which penalizes public sexual gestures that demean the dignity of women.
